I Have A Dream…

Welcome to P1!

P2/3 Scottish/French topic

For the past five weeks the primary 2/3s have been learning about the differences between France and Scotland. One of the areas that they focused on during their topic was food. They learnt about traditional foods in both countries. They got to try some croissant as they are a traditional food in France. And for Scotland they tried shortbread made by Eve

Art work was another of their interests. They looked at French reflection paintings. They all had ago of painting some themselves and then displayed some of them of the classroom walls. For Scottish art work they learnt about Macintosh, who painted patterns.

They also focused on famous landmarks and places of both countries. Some of these included the Eiffel tower, Paris, Stirling castle, and the Wallace Monument. They learnt about why the different landmarks and places were famous.

On the 21st June the P2/3 went through to primary 6/7 to listen to their French projects that they had been working on for the past few weeks. The projects where in French and the pupils had to say every thing in French. Sophie Wood said she thought that the projects were great and she could sort of understand what they were saying.

Molly’s Garden

As part of the Nursery’s Health week the children all walked to Mrs Holmes house. On the way to the house they saw a roller, because some men were doing work on a path. When they got there they played with some toys. There was lots to choose from:

A slide

A swing

A trampoline

Basket ball and hoop

go kart

Dumper truck

Skipping rope

Swing ball

Water tray

roller skates

Dolly and pram

After all of that tiring playing they had a snack of fruit salad and then a small cup cake. To finish off they played with some more toys then walked back to nursery.

Some of their favourite bits were “playing on the roller skates  and on the trampoline and of course  “the smartie on top of the cup of the cup cake”

Nursery Sports!

On Friday the 18th June the nursery had their very own Sports Day at the Hydro.

They liked the Sports Day because the grass was fluffy and soft and it was fun to walk there. Mrs Pearson and Mrs McGregor went with some Mums to help there.

The races were:

a skipping race

a running race

a egg and spoon race

a hopping race

All the Nursery really enjoyed the races!

At the end of the sports day all the nursery won a gold medal with a ‘stripy strap.’ They liked the medal because it was gold and shiny.

Overall the Nursery Sports Day was a huge success, and thank you to the Hydro for the loan of the space.

Pallet Garden Competition!

The nursery class entered the “Pallet Garden Challenge” at Gardening Scotland 2010, creating a robot garden. This was designed by the whole group and planted on the day by Fin, Murdo and Dugald. Despite heavy competition from many young people’s groups in the area, St Mary’s scooped a bronze award. Well done, everyone!

Nursery City Trip!

On the 26th of June the nursery went to the MacRobert and they went through a cardboard tunnel and there were two Australian builders. There was soft building blocks and they made buildings, and their was a road and if any blocks went on to the builders would blow their whistle & the child that put it on to the road would get a hazard sticker, the nursery really enjoyed their visit to the MacRobert and they would love to do it again.

P1 Secret Garden!

For the last term P1 have been doing a topic on Secret Gardens. They’ve turned their home corner into one, and have been looking at different bugs and beasties that live in them, and did some things about animal life cycles at the Zoo. They also did some finger paintings of plants and bees and they were on display out side their class room, and made some sunflowers and sat them outside.

Climate Change Video Competition!

Primary six and two of the primary sevens have been doing a Climate Change project for a competition. The winner will receive £1000 for their school. We have been working with Miss Paterson with it and it has been a rush but very interesting.

To enter the competition you had to put in a

  • Film
  • Poster
  • 250 word evaluation

First of all we made our groups – we had to use our different talents and abilities and try to get a group using them all.  We then gave everyone a role for the film. We then discussed we knew about Climate Change, and then made an action plan for our film. Everyone had very good ideas!

We then researched Climate Change using the internet and books, then we all jig-sawed the information together and made our script from that. Then we decided what sort of film we could make.  Then all of the groups wrote their script for the film, different people had different ideas for their script and film. Joe Shaw came in to talk to us about different ideas we could use for our film- we could use the green screen and video camera but Joe Shaw had loads of ideas with what groups could use.

We rehearsed the film and the script a few times and then it was time to film.  We all had different roles to play. Joe Shaw came in to help us edit, he talked us through what he was doing and it was very interesting.

Everyone learned a lot with this project and hopefully one of the groups will win.
