Primary six and two of the primary sevens have been doing a Climate Change project for a competition. The winner will receive £1000 for their school. We have been working with Miss Paterson with it and it has been a rush but very interesting.
To enter the competition you had to put in a
- Film
- Poster
- 250 word evaluation
First of all we made our groups – we had to use our different talents and abilities and try to get a group using them all. We then gave everyone a role for the film. We then discussed we knew about Climate Change, and then made an action plan for our film. Everyone had very good ideas!
We then researched Climate Change using the internet and books, then we all jig-sawed the information together and made our script from that. Then we decided what sort of film we could make. Then all of the groups wrote their script for the film, different people had different ideas for their script and film. Joe Shaw came in to talk to us about different ideas we could use for our film- we could use the green screen and video camera but Joe Shaw had loads of ideas with what groups could use.
We rehearsed the film and the script a few times and then it was time to film. We all had different roles to play. Joe Shaw came in to help us edit, he talked us through what he was doing and it was very interesting.
Everyone learned a lot with this project and hopefully one of the groups will win.

P6/7 entered a film competition, we wanted to win so we had a big discussion with the whole class to see what we would base it on. Joe Shaw, who was going to help us with the film joined in to.
Suddenly the idea of Scotland’s got talent got mentioned and that was just the start of our film. Then the idea of break dancing midges (Biodiversity) , two dancing fairies (Faerie Wishes), and a singing loch ness monster (LoMo). With all these ideas we split up into four groups that were the, Presenters Judges and Script Writers, who wrote the script, did the judges voices and filmed the presenters.
LoMo, who wrote the song for LoMo to sing, drew LoMo and recorded her voice.
Faerie wishes, which choreographed a dance, preformed it and got two boys to dress up as fairies.
Biodiversity, made midges, made a mini stage and took lots of photos then put then together to make break dancing midges.
Finally Joe put all of these together and that was our film done.

Then we sent it off to the film contest judges to see if we can get though to the finals, then we just had to wait…
A few weeks later we got a letter saying we got through to the finals. So four of us out of each group get to go to the macrobert to see if we have won on the 24 of March!

Mrs Diamond and Mrs McBryde came to P6/7 on Wednesday. They are archivists at The National Archive Centre, Scotland. They were talking to us about a wealthy Victorian Family and we had to get into our learning partners and pose for a photograph and decide what to do, to save the family’s last child. We had to make a decision on whether or not the family should stay in Jamaica or move back to Scotland. There were also photos that we looked of the Webster Family.
We also had to look at a Census with magnifying glasses and fill in a worksheet on what we were researching. The Webster Family lived at Burnside House in Argyllshire. We are all as Mrs Diamond says “budding archivists!”

In science with Mrs Allan P6/7 are learning about endangered species. Everyone got into partners and half the class made posters and the other half made leaflets. We all had different animals to research and we had to present our findings in whatever format we had chosen. Once everyone had finished, we all had time to look at other people’s animals that the had researched so at the end of it all everyone knew a variety of different endangered animals and what we can do or what other people are doing to help.

P6/7s have a new topic and its Victorians! So far we have done a mind map and decided on the main areas that we would like to focus on. We have also played some Victorian games during our 10 minutes breaks. During the rest of the term the main areas we will be learning all about are;
- The way the Victorians lived?
- The entertainment they had?
- The way children were treated?
- Work and schools?
- Food?
- Their personal hygiene?
- Queen Victoria herself?
- Literature?
- Transport?
We are all really looking forward to having the Victorians as a topic.
