This session a group of parents supported by Active Stirling have volunteered to run two after school sports clubs. TOP Play will be on a Wednesday 3.15-4pm for pupils in P1-P3 and TOP sport will be on a Monday 3.15-4.15pm and will be open to pupils in P4-P7. Both clubs will give children the opportunity to try a range of sporting activities over the course of the year.
Many thanks to all the parents who have organized after school activities over the years and to those who have already volunteered to continue helping. More volunteers are always welcome. Parents who cannot commit to a whole year but who would be willing to help for a block of time or on a relief basis would also be very welcome. Training, support and Disclosure Scotland Checks are all organized by Active Stirling.
TOP play [P1-P3] will start on Wednesday 8th September
TOP Sport [P4-P7] will start on Monday 13th September

Last night was the St. Marys EPS Annual Prize Giving 2010! First all the book prizes were given out by Mrs Greer; the Director of Education for Stirling Council. Well done everyone who got one! Then the Primary 7’s read out their memories. Some were sad; some were funny, some were touching, but they were all really interesting and everyone enjoyed listening to them. After that the Primary 7’s got called up again to be given a French Dictionary as a gift from the PSA by Mr Thompson the PSA chairman Thanks to them for that, on behalf of all of us. They will be very useful at High School. Then the P 7’s got called up again to be given the big prizes of cups, medals and book tokens. Unfortunately we only got to keep the cups for one night and had to give them back today, but we get to keep the medals and book tokens, and the cups have our names engraved on them, so no one can ever forget we won them. Even if they want to! Then we stayed up while Kimberly gave a blessing, and then we rounded the whole thing off by singing End of the Road. I think even Mrs Hewitt was crying!

A few weeks ago The P4-7s had their school show. It was all about four people going for their first job interview remembering when it was their:

First day at school- – where it was really funny because the mum was more scared than the child whose first day it was.

Learning to tell the time for the first time- In which there was a frustrated teacher

Being sent to the head for the first time- Mad head with a fish (Shark)

First sports day- Two over enthusiastic teachers about PE and one CHEATING child.

First after school club- Where three teachers get their own revenge on their pupils.

Everyone who wanted a part got one even though it meant the teachers had to make up some. Everyone enjoyed it and some P1/2/3s saw it 3 times.

KIPPENROSS GRANT
At the end of the show on Tuesday, Dugal and I got called down to the front of the stage to accept a giant cheque from Shonagh Gordon from the Double tree Hotel for £500! We’re very VERY grateful for this, and our House Captains for next year, Stuart and Lara, are planning to use it to put new Flowers and Bugs and Beasties plaques on the railings at the front of the school. Again, thank you to everyone at the Double Tree Hotel and I’m sure the money will go to good use.

For the past five weeks the primary 2/3s have been learning about the differences between France and Scotland. One of the areas that they focused on during their topic was food. They learnt about traditional foods in both countries. They got to try some croissant as they are a traditional food in France. And for Scotland they tried shortbread made by Eve

Art work was another of their interests. They looked at French reflection paintings. They all had ago of painting some themselves and then displayed some of them of the classroom walls. For Scottish art work they learnt about Macintosh, who painted patterns.

They also focused on famous landmarks and places of both countries. Some of these included the Eiffel tower, Paris, Stirling castle, and the Wallace Monument. They learnt about why the different landmarks and places were famous.

On the 21st June the P2/3 went through to primary 6/7 to listen to their French projects that they had been working on for the past few weeks. The projects where in French and the pupils had to say every thing in French. Sophie Wood said she thought that the projects were great and she could sort of understand what they were saying.

As part of the Nursery’s Health week the children all walked to Mrs Holmes house. On the way to the house they saw a roller, because some men were doing work on a path. When they got there they played with some toys. There was lots to choose from:

A slide

A swing

A trampoline

Basket ball and hoop

go kart

Dumper truck

Skipping rope

Swing ball

Water tray

roller skates

Dolly and pram

After all of that tiring playing they had a snack of fruit salad and then a small cup cake. To finish off they played with some more toys then walked back to nursery.

Some of their favourite bits were “playing on the roller skates and on the trampoline and of course “the smartie on top of the cup of the cup cake”

The Primary sevens made our way up to the High School where we met up with the other schools in the Dunblane Cluster. Active Stirling were in charge of organizing the event although the High School staff were involved too. The stations were activities like:

Heading

Rugby

Skipping

Crab crawling

Football

Hockey

Tennis

Relay

We also had a question to answer after every station and the team who won earned points for their group. We then had a quick snack whilst we were given a talk about what kind of activities were on offer at the High School when we get up there. Afterwards we split into teams of boys and girls. We found our name on a piece of paper on the wall and that was the team we were in for the next part of the morning. Whilst the boys were outside on the Astroturf playing football the girls stayed indoors to play basketball. We were playing for our houses and the points will be added to our house when we are in S1. We then swapped round and the boys came inside to play basketball and the girls went outside to play hockey. We arrived back at school just when everyone was going in after break and sat outside to eat our lunch before going back inside to end the school day as normal. Everyone enjoyed themselves and had great fun getting to know more people from their class for after the summer.
