Advent Assemblies

This term the whole school have been putting together Advent Assemblies. Every single child in the school takes part. This is something new to St Mary’s and it has been extremely successful. We start the Assembly with a song that the choir have been practising and then we light our REACH candles. A different person lights the candles and says what the value means. After that p6/7 read out their gifts of love, hope, family etc that they have linked to Children in Need. This is followed by p4/5 who have been reading Stig of the Dump, they are making wishes for children who live on dumps in the world today and they give a wish gift of something that would help them like, clean water, shelter and clothes. Then p2/3 read out clues about a character from their nativity and the audience has to guess who they are talking about. P1 then talk about wishes for people who don’t have very much to have at Christmas. Mrs White tells a story about Christmas and about what is really important to us. Finally we sing We Wish You a Merry Christmas while the candles are put out. We have really enjoyed these assemblies and especially like how our parents have been able to come along and watch too.
