Stirling Castle Visit

On 2nd March Primary 2/3 went on a visit to Stirling Castle. We split into two groups, we went into different parts of the castle. The first group was with Miss Hughes and the second group was with Mrs Mace. We worked our way into the castle and we saw a knight with all his chain mail and armour. He also had a sword and a dagger. We also saw the prison which is called the dungeon it was in one of the towers under the ground so it was very cold and dark.

We went into the kitchen and Miss Hughes had given us questions to think about during the visit -like what did they have to eat and did the knights eat the same as the royal people? We found out that they didn’t have ovens but used fires and the royal people were fed first and then the knights and then the ordinary people and then the dogs if there was any left. Then we went into the great hall and found out that the wood on the roof kept it warm and when they restored it they didn’t use a single nail but they put it together like a giant jig saw using one hundred oak trees. We saw someone making a tapestry and they said that it would be finished in July next year and three of them had been working on it for two years already!

We all really enjoyed the trip and the Castle topic.

Senses

P2/3’s last topic was senses. Here is only a few of the things they did.

Taste Test

In the taste test P2/3 were blind folded and given a sweet by their partner. The blind folded person had to guess what the flavour of sweet was.

4 out of five people rated this there favourite part of the topic (the last person wasn’t there)

Hear Test

In the hearing test Mrs Hughes made a sound and the class had to guess what it was. It was one person’s favourite thing. After they did a report on the test. P2/3 also looked at the inside of an ear on the internet.

Touch

They were taught sign language. They also drew around there hands and then coloured in their hands.

Sight

They did a sight test where they saw things on the board and they had to remember them. They then had to go back into their groups and see how much they could remember. In another experiment they were blind folded and there partner had to instructed them how to draw their picture. P2/3 looked at a wed site which showed you the inside of your eye.

Art

P2/3 made clay eyes and drew/painted a picture of someone eating a lollypop or ice-cream.
