On the 19th March we had a sports relief day. The Health Committee decided we should do a ‘Memorable Mile.’ Everyone came dressed in fancy dress costumes and we also had to run, skip, jump, hop or anything like that for a mile. I think we can all agree it was pretty tiring! We didn’t do it in the playground as it was going to be too small so we did it up at the Double Tree (The Hydro) so we would like to thank them for the use of the space. Sports Relief Socks Competitions
Our Winners were, Charles, P2, for the biggest smile, Kirsty, P7, for the wearing the most socks all over her top!!! Our final prize went to Holly, P3, for her beautiful fancy dress costume. Budgets The Pupil Council have a very important job, dealing with the school’s funds and we now have a budget for the school, classes, houses and committees. We have already had our first request from Cromlix for money to pay for new litter pickers. Pupil Surveys/ Action Plan We have also collated all of the pupil surveys and made an action plan based on the results. Our actions are:
Anti Bullying Policy Some of the older members of the Council met up with Pupil Council members from the Dunblane Cluster and discussed a new anti bullying policy that we will introduce in all the schools. Our aims are:
Success Criteria for Group work We have been making sure that each class has their own success criteria fro what makes an excellent Group Discussion. They are now being used in classes whenever they are working in Groups. By Sophie (Pupil Council Member)
It all started a few months ago, when Anne Youngman from the Bat Conservation Trust came in to talk to us about bats and the danger they’re in. Then she e-mailed us that there was going to be this big grant launched, and we just couldn’t say no! First, we had a talk from Anne, some people from the CVS and Bruce Crawford, our local MSP. (Everyone enjoyed him coming in!) Then we made bat badges and batty labels for our plant pots. Rory in P5 said, Then at snack time some people from the paper came and took photos of us all, with Rachel H and Hamish dressed up as giant bats! Then after snack some of the younger children planted seeds with Anne, and the older children made bat boxes with some of the adult helpers, and a bat box expert. Rachel R in P4 said, And Bethany, P5 and Cameron, P4 said, Over all I think it was a great day and we helped the bats a lot. Kilbryde house had a house morning on the 4th of December. Our activity in this house morning was to make pomanders. Pomanders are large oranges that we stuck cloves into they also had red, green or white. We all had great fun doing this activity but that wasn’t it after this we made an eco tree first we drew round our hands on paper then cut them out and stuck them in the shape of a Christmas tree with mottos we would do over the holiday to do with saving energy. Everyone had a great time and can’t wait for the next one. On our third and final eco morning for this year Cromlix were very busy making things. First of all most of us stayed inside and made some stars to decorate the garden, while some of us braved the freezing cold and emptied the bins. Unfortunately the lid of the bin had frozen to the bin but eventually it came off. After we had emptied the bins and made lovely stars we had a special visitor. Emily who works for Keep Scotland Beautiful came in and talked to us about the ever growing problem of global warming. Then she taught us to make some amazing wallets made of only old juice cartons. They worked very well and were surprisingly strong. This was definitely one of our best eco mornings and everyone put in a lot of effort.
For Kippenross’ third house morning (yes, it’s the third already) we had a Batty Bat day!!! First, we had a visit from Anne Youngman from the Bat Conservation Trust, or BCT for short, who told us all about bats, and let us have a bit of fun at the end. As well as telling us everything we’d ever need to know to go batty (like I’m going while writing this), she let us pretend to be bats too! (That was the fun bit!!!) We sprouted wings, grew our ears, and FLEEEEEEEEW!!!!!!!! Of into the night. After snack, we made the most exciting, coolest, hats ever! Bat Hats! They have black rims, and colourful strips of paper with bats (not real ones, thankfully) at the end. You can also stick stickers, moons and stars on the front. Totally Batty!!! Over-all I think every one had a brilliant time, and hopefully learned a thing or too as well. Like, BATS RULE!!!!!!!!!!!! First we did Christmassy outlines on glass jars with stain glass window paints. Whilst we were waiting for the paints to dry we played healthy games on the computer and board games that we made. The ECO Committee would like to invite all families to join us for carol singing in the outdoor classroom at 3.20pm on Friday 18th December. Hot Chocolate and mince pies will be served. Any parents who are able to help serving refreshments should contact Mrs Hewitt or Mrs Allan. |
