We are going to be learning about Frozen. This context for learning has arisen from the children’s interest in ice, snow, crystal growing experiments, melting, penguins and animals from cold climates, role play and the popular film Frozen.
Consultation with the children on this has developed ideas and an icy, frozen themed hex-bug habitat has already been constructed and is being used.
We are planning, working as a team and using tool safely.
The role play area has been transformed into an ice palace and there are now penguins, orca and walrus in the water tray snow.
Primary 7 have been learning and practising on the new hand bells in school. Today they went up to Randolph Hill to play a merry Christmas tune for the residents. It certainly set a festive tone!
Well done, Primary 7!
St Mary’s choir took the opportunity to spread some Christmas cheer today at Randolph Hill. Boys and girls from Primary 3-7 who are in the choir went up to sing their Christmas carols and wish everyone a very merry Christmas. It was a great morning and they all sang beautifully. Well done to everyone who took part.
Happy Christmas!
Over the last weeks many new children have started at St Mary’s in the nursery. We have been helping everyone to feel welcome, safe, healthy and included. This has been done through having our favourite books, snack to eat and activities on offer. We are also enjoying having a longer nursery session of 3 hours and 10 minutes per day.
Here are some photographs to show what we have been learning about.
Outside play
Colour mixing
Role play with Lego figures
and our first outing to the play park.
Our learning over the next few weeks will be on “How Things Work”.
Inspire - Aspire; Global Citizens in the making is a unique Awards Programme that is working with the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games to inspire and connect young people throughout the Commonwealth.
5 children from Primary 5 / 6 had their work submitted for this Awards programme and we were fortunate enough to have 3 of our children selected as finalists. These three children were selcted out of the 30, 000 national entries.
The children attended the awards ceremony at Glasgow University on Monday 16th June, and were presented with their awards by Mark Beaumont.
